It’s never too late or too early to take up a second language and with this in mind The English Language Centre started offering classes for kids from the age of 3 years upward some eight years ago.
Our specialist young learners teacher facilitates learning through music and play and injects so much fun and dynamism into the lessons that the pupils don’t even notice that they’re learning - much less in a foreign language! When the time is right for each individual, he or she is encouraged to sit the University of Cambridge exams in English as a Second or Other Language. This could start as young as seven with the Young Learner exams specially designed for little ones so they are not subjected to a potentially intimidating exam ordeal. The first of these is the “Starters”, the next step is the “Movers” and then the “Flyers”.
These exams normally take place in the pupils’ own classroom. They each comprise a reading, writing and listening element as well as an oral exam overseen by fully trained local examiners. The exams are sent to Cambridge where they are marked in such a way that it is not a matter of pass or fail, but rather the candidate’s level of achievement which is indicated by the number of shields attained.
